Sugar Cravings, How to manage them naturally!!
Verne Varona’s Top Ten Sugar Craving Strategies
The following could be individual or collective reasons for sugar cravings. Read each suggestion and notice how it applies to your eating or lifestyle. Reducing your desire or addiction for sugar should not require Herculean will power. Becoming conscious of the physiological and lifestyle factors that stimulate sugar cravings should make taming your sweet tooth a piece of cake--so to speak...
1. REDUCE SALT & PRODUCTS WITH SALT The need for dietary salt from natural sources (sun-dried sea salt) is dependent on several factors; a lack of salt can cause fatigue, stimulate a desire to overeat and often result in a craving or animal protein. However, with the availability of good quality sea salt, miso paste, tamari soy sauce and natural pickles, it's quite easy to overdose. Thirst and a craving for sweet foods is one of the most reliable indicators of excess dietary salt.
2. REDUCE ANIMAL PROTEINThe standard four basic food group propaganda was force-fed to the American public along with the myth that animal protein should be a dietary staple. The meat and potatoes mentality has to re-think its philosophy since established research shows excess animal protein can lead to colon and prostate cancer. If this applies to you eat less in volume (2 to 4 ounce servings) and limit it to three to four times per week (maximum), as opposed to daily.
3. REDUCE FOOD VOLUME Overeating leads to fatigue and sluggishness. This makes a stimulant like sugar (or coffee) more appealing. Eating more frequently will allow you to reduce overeating with a minimum of effort.
4. EAT MORE FREQUENTLY THROUGHOUT THE DAY One of the most common reasons for sugar cravings--especially at night. By skipping meals or waiting long periods you stop supplying your blood with glucose. The blood sugar drops and by the time you finally get around to eating, you're going nuts for simple sugar. You're also likely to end up overeating or craving something fatty as a compensation for sugar. Initially, don't wait more than 31/2 to 4 hours between meals.
5. AVOID EATING PRIOR TO BED If your body's digesting when it requires much needed rest, you'll require more sleep, dream excessively and find it difficult awakening with alertness. Good deep sleep will result in wide-awake days. Eating to close to bedtime creates a groggy awakening craving the stimulation of sugar (or caffeine) the following morning. Eat a light evening dinner at least 21/2 to three hours before retiring.
6. AVOID SUGAR This might sound obvious, however, continuing to eat simple sugars results in a falling blood sugar. This stimulates a need for more sugar and the cycle continues. Even though fruit is a simple sugar, switching to fruit instead of sugar is a good first step. Eat the skin of the fruit as well since fiber slows blood sugar elevation.
7. EXERCISE MODERATELY, BUT CONSISTENTLY Daily aerobic exercise will increase circulation and strengthen will power. Brisk walking, biking, light jogging, etc. naturally increases sensitivity to the effects of sugar. Try to get 20 to 30 minutes of some type of pleasurable exercise at least 5 times per week. Enjoy this. It should not be a chore.
8. EMPHASIZE NATURAL WHOLE COMPLEX-CARBOHYDRATES If your daily diet is includes whole grains (brown rice, oats, millet, barley, etc.), vegetables (roots, greens and round vegetables such as squashes, cabbages, etc.) as a primary fuel, you'll find you automatically crave less sugar. Emphasizing sweet vegetables such as carrots, cooked onions, corn, cabbage, parsnips, squashes, etc., adds a natural sweetness to meals. Introduce some sea vegetables (aka "seaweeds") for much needed minerals to enrich blood.
9. DON'T SUPPRESS FEELINGS This doesn't mean you have to broadcast every feeling--only those that matter and to those who really matter to you. Food indulgence, especially with sweets, is a convenient way to anesthetize feelings. Sugar can consume you with sensory pleasure, temporarily providing mental relief from whatever might be stressful. However, sweets can hinder energy levels and mental clarity so in the long run your emotional coping ability becomes compromised.
10. BEWARE OF PSYCHOLOGICAL TRIGGERS The many psychological associations we connect with food have a powerful influence. Beware of family associations, movie rituals, familiar restaurants, childhood habits, etc.

Is Eating a Plant - Based Diet a Cure for Cancer?
Is Eating a Plant-Based Diet a Cure for Cancer?
By Kathy Freston, AlterNetPosted on September 25, 2009, Printed on September 25, 2009http://www.alternet.org/story/142875/
I have been working closely recently with a few extraordinary nutritional researchers, and I find that the information they have compiled is quite eye opening. Interestingly, what these highly esteemed doctors are saying is just beginning to be understood and accepted, perhaps because what they are saying does not conveniently fit in with or support the multi-billion dollar food industries that profit from our "not knowing." One thing is for sure: we are getting sicker and more obese than our health care system can handle, and the conventional methods of dealing with disease often have harmful side effects and are ineffective for some patients.
As it is now, one out of every two of us will get cancer or heart disease and die from it -- an ugly and painful death as anyone who has witnessed it can attest. And starting in the year 2000, one out of every three children who are born after that year will develop diabetes -- a disease that for most sufferers (those with Type 2 diabetes) is largely preventable with lifestyle changes. This is a rapidly emerging crisis, the seriousness of which I'm not sure we have yet recognized. The good news is, the means to prevent and heal disease seems to be right in front of us; it's in our food. Quite frankly, our food choices can either kill us -- which mounting studies say that they are, or they can lift us right out of the disease process and into soaring health.
In the next few months, I will share a series of interviews I've conducted with the preeminent doctors and nutritional researchers in the fields of their respective expertise. And here it is straight out: they are all saying the same thing in different ways and through multiple and varying studies: animal protein seems to greatly contribute to diseases of nearly every type; and a plant-based diet is not only good for our health, but it's also curative of the very serious diseases we face.
Cancer
On the subject of cancer, I've asked Dr. T. Colin Campbell, Professor Emeritus of Cornell University and author of the groundbreaking The China Study to explain how cancer happens and what we can do to prevent and reverse it. Dr. Campbell's work is regarded by many as the definitive epidemiological examination of the relationship between diet and disease. He has received more than 70 grant years of peer-reviewed research funding, much of which was funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), and he has authored more than 300 research papers. He grew up on a dairy farm believing in the great health value of animal protein in the American diet and set out in his career to investigate how to produce more and better animal protein. Troublesome to his preconceived hypothesis of the goodness of dairy, Dr. Campbell kept running up against results that consistently proved an emerging and comprehensive truth: that animal protein is disastrous to human health.
Through a variety of experimental study designs, epidemiological evidence, along with observation of real life conditions which had rational biological explanation, Dr. Campbell has made a direct and powerful correlation between cancer (and other diseases and illnesses) and animal protein. Following is a conversation I had with him so that I could better understand the association.
Kathy Freston: What happens in the body when cancer develops? What is the actual process?
T. Colin Campbell: Cancer generally develops over a long period of time, divided into 3 stages, initiation, promotion and progression.
Initiation occurs when chemicals or other agents attack the genes of normal cells to produce genetically modified cells capable of eventually causing cancer. The body generally repairs most such damage but if the cell reproduces itself before it is repaired, its new (daughter) cell retains this genetic damage. This process may occur within minutes and, to some extent, is thought to be occurring most of the time in most of our tissues.
Promotion occurs when the initiated cells continue to replicate themselves and grow into cell masses that eventually will be diagnosed. This is a long growth phase occurring over months or years and is known to be reversible. Progression occurs when the growing cancer masses invade neighboring tissues and/or break away from the tissue of origin (metastasis) and travel to distant tissues when they are capable of growing independently at which point they are considered to be malignant.
KF: Why do some people get cancer, and other don't? What percentage is genetic, and what percentage has to do with diet?
TCC: Although the initiated cells are not considered to be reversible, the cells growing through the promotion stage are usually considered to be reversible, a very exciting concept. This is the stage that especially responds to nutritional factors. For example, the nutrients from animal based foods, especially the protein, promote the development of the cancer whereas the nutrients from plant-based foods, especially the antioxidants, reverse the promotion stage. This is a very promising observation because cancer proceeds forward or backward as a function of the balance of promoting and anti-promoting factors found in the diet, thus consuming anti-promoting plant-based foods tend to keep the cancer from going forward, perhaps even reversing the promotion. The difference between individuals is almost entirely related to their diet and lifestyle practices.
Although all cancer and other diseases begin with genes, this is not the reason whether or not the disease actually appears. If people do the right thing during the promotion stage, perhaps even during the progression stage, cancer will not appear and if it does, might even be resolved. Most estimates suggest that not more than 2-3 percent of cancers are due entirely to genes; almost all the rest is due to diet and lifestyle factors. Consuming plant based foods offers the best hope of avoiding cancer, perhaps even reversing cancer once it is diagnosed. Believing that cancer is attributed to genes is a fatalistic idea but believing that cancer can be controlled by nutrition is a far more hopeful idea.
KF: You said that initially something attacks the genes, chemicals or other agents; like what?
TCC: Cancer, like every other biological event--good or bad--begins with genes. In the case of cancer, gene(s) that give rise to cancer either may be present when we are born or, during our lifetimes, normal genes may be converted into cancer genes by certain highly reactive chemicals (i.e., carcinogens).
Consider 'cancer genes' as seeds that grow into tumor masses only if they are 'fed'. The 'feeding' comes from wrongful nutrition. It's like growing a lawn. We plant seeds but they don't grow into grass (or weeds) unless they are provided water, sunlight and nutrients. So it is with cancer. In reality, we are planting seeds all of our lifetime although some may be present at birth, not only for cancer but also for other events as well. But this mostly does not matter unless we 'nourish' their growth.
The chemicals that create these cancer genes are called 'carcinogens'. Most carcinogens of years past have been those that attack normal genes to give cancer genes. These are initiating carcinogens, or initiators. But more recently, carcinogens also may be those that promote cancer growth. They are promoting carcinogens, or promoters.
Our work showed that casein is the most relevant cancer promoter ever discovered.
Aside from chemicals initiating or promoting cancer, other agents such as cosmic rays (energetic particles) from the sun or from the outer reaches of space may impact our genes to cause them to change (i.e., mutate) so that they could give rise to cancer 'seeds'. The most important point to consider is that we cannot do much about preventing initiation but we can do a lot about preventing promotion. The initiating idea is fatalistic and outside of our control but the promotion idea is hopeful because we can change our exposure to promoting agents and reverse the cancer process, thus is within our control.
KF: What exactly is so bad about animal protein?
TCC: I don't choose the word "exactly" because it suggests something very specific. Rather, casein causes a broad spectrum of adverse effects.
Among other fundamental effects, it makes the body more acidic, alters the mix of hormones and modifies important enzyme activities, each of which can cause a broad array of more specific effects. One of these effects is its ability to promote cancer growth (by operating on key enzyme systems, by increasing hormone growth factors and by modifying the tissue acidity). Another is its ability to increase blood cholesterol (by modifying enzyme activities) and to enhance atherogenesis, which is the early stage of cardiovascular disease.
And finally, although these are casein-specific effects, it should be noted that other animal-based proteins are likely to have the same effect as casein.
KF: Ok, so I am clear that it's wise to avoid casein, which is intrinsic in dairy (milk and cheese), but how is other animal protein, such as chicken, steak, or pork, implicated in the cause and growth of cancer?
TCC: I would first say that casein is not just "intrinsic" but is the main protein of cow milk, representing about 87 percent of the milk protein.
The biochemical systems which underlie the adverse effects of casein are also common to other animal-based proteins. Also, the amino acid composition of casein, which is the characteristic primarily responsible for its property, is similar to most other animal-based proteins. They all have what we call high 'biological value', in comparison, for example, with plant-based proteins, which is why animal protein promotes cancer growth and plant protein doesn't.
KF: Isn't anything in moderation ok, as long as we don't overdo it?
TCC: I rather like the expression told by my friend, Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr., MD, the Cleveland Clinic surgeon who reversed heart disease and who says, "Moderation kills!" I prefer to go the whole way, not because we have fool-proof evidence showing that 100% is better than, say, 95% for every single person for every single condition but that it is easier to avoid straying off on an excursion that too often becomes a slippery slope back to our old ways. Moreover, going the whole way allows us to adapt to new unrealized tastes and to rid ourselves of some old addictions. And finally, moderation often means very different things for different people.
KF: Are you saying that if one changes their diet from animal based protein to plant-based protein that the disease process of cancer can be halted and reversed?
TCC: Yes, this is what our experimental research shows. I also have become aware of many anecdotal claims by people who have said that their switch to a plant-based diet stopped even reversed (cured?) their disease. One study on melanoma has been published in the peer-reviewed literature that shows convincing evidence that cancer progression is substantially halted with this diet.
KF: How long does it take to see changes?
TCC: It is not clear because carefully designed research in humans has not been done. However, we demonstrated and published findings showing that experimental progression of disease is at least suspended, even reversed, when tumors are clearly present.
KF: Consider a person who has been eating poorly his whole life; is there still hope that a dietary change can make a big difference? Or is everything already in motion?
TCC: Yes, a variety of evidence shows that cancers and non-cancers alike can be stopped even after consuming a poor diet earlier in life. This effect is equivalent to treatment, a very exciting concept.
KF: This is sounding like it's a cure for cancer; is that the case?
TCC: Yes. The problem in this area of medicine is that traditional doctors are so focused on the use of targeted therapies (chemo, surgery, radiation) that they refuse to even acknowledge the use of therapies like nutrition and are loathe to even want to do proper research in this area. So, in spite of the considerable evidence--theoretical and practical--to support a beneficial nutritional effect, every effort will be made to discredit it. It's a self-serving motive.
KF: What else do you recommend one does to avoid, stop, or reverse cancer?
TCC: A good diet, when coupled with other health promoting activities like exercise, adequate fresh air and sunlight, good water and sleep, will be more beneficial. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Garcinia Cambogia Extract - A Natural Weight Loss Supplement
the western world as a natural weight loss supplement.
Although some studies are less conclusive, several have
shown that it does help people to lose weight and that it can
be an effective weight loss supplement for many people.
Garcinia cambogia is the name of a small tropical fruit
that grows in India and Africa. It is one of the citrus
family like oranges and lemons. It is too sour to eat but
the rind is used as a spice in Indian cooking. The correct
name for the substance that is extracted from the fruit as
a weight loss supplement is hydroxycitric acid.
Hydroxycitric acid is not a stimulant (like caffeine) or an
appetite suppressant, both of which work directly on the
nerve centers of the brain and can have undesired side
effects, including causing food binges any time you stop
taking them. Instead, HCA satisfies the body's need for
energy and improves the signaling system that the body uses
to tell the brain when it has eaten enough. This response
is often delayed in overweight people, causing them to continue
to eat more than they need.
Garcinia cambogia extract (HCA) seems to work best in
combination with chromium, which helps to regulate the
body's blood sugar levels. Chromium is a mineral that is
often lacking in our diets as we get older and a chromium
deficit can contribute to weight gain and possibly
diabetes. However if you have diabetes already, you should
see your doctor before taking any products containing
chromium.
As with most supplements, it is best to be cautious and do
not take HCA if you are pregnant or breast feeding. Consult
a doctor before giving it to children. You may also want to
avoid HCA if you suffer from migraine or arthritis which
can be worsened by citrus fruits.
HCA seems to work best for people who overeat when they are
anxious or stressed, as it will give the same calming effect
that they get from food. Generally you do not need to eat
any special foods when you are taking HCA, and there are no
'forbidden foods'. Choose healthy foods and you should find
that you lose weight and fat slowly but steadily without
really trying. You can take slightly smaller portions if
you wish and choose fruit instead of sugary snacks but you
should not need to go hungry. This is a very natural way to
lose weight.
Unlike many other weight loss products, HCA has been
extensively tested in research laboratories on both human
and animal subjects and no side effects have been found.
This natural weight loss supplement is available from many
sources online and may be labeled either hydroxycitric acid
or garcinia cambogia extract.

Doctors Warn;Avoid Genetically Modified Foods
Source: Spilling the Beans - Institute For Responsible Technology
Author: Jeffery M. Smith
On May 19th, the American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) called on “Physicians to educate their patients, the medical community, and the public to avoid GM (genetically modified) foods when possible and provide educational materials concerning GM foods and health risks.”[1] They called for a moratorium on GM foods, long-term independent studies, and labeling. AAEM’s position paper stated, “Several animal studies indicate serious health risks associated with GM food,” including infertility, immune problems, accelerated aging, insulin regulation, and changes in major organs and the gastrointestinal system. They conclude, “There is more than a casual association between GM foods and adverse health effects. There is causation,” as defined by recognized scientific criteria. “The strength of association and consistency between GM foods and disease is confirmed in several animal studies.”
More and more doctors are already prescribing GM-free diets. Dr. Amy Dean, a Michigan internal medicine specialist, and board member of AAEM says, “I strongly recommend patients eat strictly non-genetically modified foods.” Ohio allergist Dr. John Boyles says “I used to test for soy allergies all the time, but now that soy is genetically engineered, it is so dangerous that I tell people never to eat it.”
Dr. Jennifer Armstrong, President of AAEM, says, “Physicians are probably seeing the effects in their patients, but need to know how to ask the right questions.” World renowned biologist Pushpa M. Bhargava goes one step further. After reviewing more than 600 scientific journals, he concludes that genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are a major contributor to the sharply deteriorating health of Americans.
Pregnant women and babies at great risk
Among the population, biologist David Schubert of the Salk Institute warns that “children are the most likely to be adversely effected by toxins and other dietary problems” related to GM foods. He says without adequate studies, the children become “the experimental animals.”[2]
The experience of actual GM-fed experimental animals is scary. When GM soy was fed to female rats, most of their babies died within three weeks—compared to a 10% death rate among the control group fed natural soy.[3] The GM-fed babies were also smaller, and later had problems getting pregnant.[4]
When male rats were fed GM soy, their testicles actually changed color—from the normal pink to dark blue.[5] Mice fed GM soy had altered young sperm.[6] Even the embryos of GM fed parent mice had significant changes in their DNA.[7] Mice fed GM corn in an Austrian government study had fewer babies, which were also smaller than normal.[8]
Reproductive problems also plague livestock. Investigations in the state of Haryana, India revealed that most buffalo that ate GM cottonseed had complications such as premature deliveries, abortions, infertility, and prolapsed uteruses. Many calves died. In the US, about two dozen farmers reported thousands of pigs became sterile after consuming certain GM corn varieties. Some had false pregnancies; others gave birth to bags of water. Cows and bulls also became infertile when fed the same corn.[9]
In the US population, the incidence of low birth weight babies, infertility, and infant mortality are all escalating.
Food designed to produce toxin
GM corn and cotton are engineered to produce their own built-in pesticide in every cell. When bugs bite the plant, the poison splits open their stomach and kills them. Biotech companies claim that the pesticide, called Bt—produced from soil bacteria Bacillus thuringiensis—has a history of safe use, since organic farmers and others use Bt bacteria spray for natural insect control. Genetic engineers insert Bt genes into corn and cotton, so the plants do the killing.
The Bt-toxin produced in GM plants, however, is thousands of times more concentrated than natural Bt spray, is designed to be more toxic,[10] has properties of an allergen, and unlike the spray, cannot be washed off the plant.
Moreover, studies confirm that even the less toxic natural bacterial spray is harmful. When dispersed by plane to kill gypsy moths in the Pacific Northwest, about 500 people reported allergy or flu-like symptoms. Some had to go to the emergency room.[11],[12]
The exact same symptoms are now being reported by farm workers throughout India, from handling Bt cotton.[13] In 2008, based on medical records, the Sunday India reported, “Victims of itching have increased massively this year . . . related to BT cotton farming.”[14]
GMOs provoke immune reactions
AAEM states, “Multiple animal studies show significant immune dysregulation,” including increase in cytokines, which are “associated with asthma, allergy, and inflammation”—all on the rise in the US.
According to GM food safety expert Dr. Arpad Pusztai, changes in the immune status of GM animals are “a consistent feature of all the studies.”[15] Even Monsanto’s own research showed significant immune system changes in rats fed Bt corn.[16] A November 2008 by the Italian government also found that mice have an immune reaction to Bt corn.[17]
GM soy and corn each contain two new proteins with allergenic properties,[18] GM soy has up to seven times more trypsin inhibitor—a known soy allergen,[19] and skin prick tests show some people react to GM, but not to non-GM soy.[20] Soon after GM soy was introduced to the UK, soy allergies skyrocketed by 50%. Perhaps the US epidemic of food allergies and asthma is a casualty of genetic manipulation.
Animals dying in large numbers
In India, animals graze on cotton plants after harvest. But when shepherds let sheep graze on Bt cotton plants, thousands died. Post mortems showed severe irritation and black patches in both intestines and liver (as well as enlarged bile ducts). Investigators said preliminary evidence “strongly suggests that the sheep mortality was due to a toxin. . . . most probably Bt-toxin.”[21] In a small follow-up feeding study by the Deccan Development Society, all sheep fed Bt cotton plants died within 30 days; those that grazed on natural cotton plants remained healthy.
In a small village in Andhra Pradesh, buffalo grazed on cotton plants for eight years without incident. On January 3rd, 2008, the buffalo grazed on Bt cotton plants for the first time. All 13 were sick the next day; all died within 3 days.[22]
Bt corn was also implicated in the deaths of cows in Germany, and horses, water buffaloes, and chickens in The Philippines.[23]
In lab studies, twice the number of chickens fed Liberty Link corn died; 7 of 20 rats fed a GM tomato developed bleeding stomachs; another 7 of 40 died within two weeks.[24] Monsanto’s own study showed evidence of poisoning in major organs of rats fed Bt corn, according to top French toxicologist G. E. Seralini.[25]
Worst finding of all—GMOs remain inside of us
The only published human feeding study revealed what may be the most dangerous problem from GM foods. The gene inserted into GM soy transfers into the DNA of bacteria living inside our intestines and continues to function.[26] This means that long after we stop eating GMOs, we may still have potentially harmful GM proteins produced continuously inside of us. Put more plainly, eating a corn chip produced from Bt corn might transform our intestinal bacteria into living pesticide factories, possibly for the rest of our lives.
When evidence of gene transfer is reported at medical conferences around the US, doctors often respond by citing the huge increase of gastrointestinal problems among their patients over the last decade. GM foods might be colonizing the gut flora of North Americans.
Warnings by government scientists ignored and denied
Scientists at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had warned about all these problems even in the early 1990s. According to documents released from a lawsuit, the scientific consensus at the agency was that GM foods were inherently dangerous, and might create hard-to-detect allergies, poisons, gene transfer to gut bacteria, new diseases, and nutritional problems. They urged their superiors to require rigorous long-term tests.[27] But the White House had ordered the agency to promote biotechnology and the FDA responded by recruiting Michael Taylor, Monsanto’s former attorney, to head up the formation of GMO policy. That policy, which is in effect today, denies knowledge of scientists’ concerns and declares that no safety studies on GMOs are required. It is up to Monsanto and the other biotech companies to determine if their foods are safe. Mr. Taylor later became Monsanto’s vice president.
Dangerously few studies, untraceable diseases
AAEM states, “GM foods have not been properly tested” and “pose a serious health risk.” Not a single human clinical trial on GMOs has been published. A 2007 review of published scientific literature on the “potential toxic effects/health risks of GM plants” revealed “that experimental data are very scarce.” The author concludes his review by asking, “Where is the scientific evidence showing that GM plants/food are toxicologically safe, as assumed by the biotechnology companies?”[28]
Famed Canadian geneticist David Suzuki answers, “The experiments simply haven’t been done and we now have become the guinea pigs.” He adds, “Anyone that says, ‘Oh, we know that this is perfectly safe,’ I say is either unbelievably stupid or deliberately lying.”[29]
Dr. Schubert points out, “If there are problems, we will probably never know because the cause will not be traceable and many diseases take a very long time to develop.” If GMOs happen to cause immediate and acute symptoms with a unique signature, perhaps then we might have a chance to trace the cause.
This is precisely what happened during a US epidemic in the late 1980s. The disease was fast acting, deadly, and caused a unique measurable change in the blood—but it still took more than four years to identify that an epidemic was even occurring. By then it had killed about 100 Americans and caused 5,000-10,000 people to fall sick or become permanently disabled. It was caused by a genetically engineered brand of a food supplement called L-tryptophan.
If other GM foods are contributing to the rise of autism, obesity, diabetes, asthma, cancer, heart disease, allergies, reproductive problems, or any other common health problem now plaguing Americans, we may never know. In fact, since animals fed GMOs had such a wide variety of problems, susceptible people may react to GM food with multiple symptoms. It is therefore telling that in the first nine years after the large scale introduction of GM crops in 1996, the incidence of people with three or more chronic diseases nearly doubled, from 7% to 13%.[30]
To help identify if GMOs are causing harm, the AAEM asks their “members, the medical community, and the independent scientific community to gather case studies potentially related to GM food consumption and health effects, begin epidemiological research to investigate the role of GM foods on human health, and conduct safe methods of determining the effect of GM foods on human health.”
Citizens need not wait for the results before taking the doctors advice to avoid GM foods. People can stay away from anything with soy or corn derivatives, cottonseed and canola oil, and sugar from GM sugar beets—unless it says organic or “non-GMO.” There is a pocket Non-GMO Shopping Guide, co-produced by the Institute for Responsible Technology and the Center for Food Safety, which is available as a download, as well as in natural food stores and in many doctors’ offices.
If even a small percentage of people choose non-GMO brands, the food industry will likely respond as they did in Europe—by removing all GM ingredients. Thus, AAEM’s non-GMO prescription may be a watershed for the US food supply.

International bestselling author and independent filmmaker Jeffrey M. Smith is the Executive Director of the Institute for Responsible Technology and the leading spokesperson on the health dangers of GMOs. His first book, Seeds of Deception is the world’s bestselling book on the subject. His second, Genetic Roulette: The Documented Health Risks of Genetically Engineered Foods, identifies 65 risks of GMOs and demonstrates how superficial government approvals are not competent to find most of them. He invited the biotech industry to respond in writing with evidence to counter each risk, but correctly predicted that they would refuse, since they don’t have the data to show that their products are safe.
"Focus Is Gold"
Focus Is Gold
One of the most challenging things to do nowadays in life is to stay focused on what you are doing and what you really want. It’s difficult, I know! As there are a lot of distractions out there just waiting to jump out at you as trying to climb the ladder of success in life.
A lot of the distractions actually come from your closest friends and family members, as soon as they start to see a trickle of change producing in your life the “change alarm bells” will start ringing. You see, some people find it hard to change, so hard that they would rather marinade themselves in self-comfort and pick the easy things in life and not stretch themselves and think outside the box. Well let me tell you there is gold outside the box, you just have to break free from the box and go dip your toe in the water before you jump in!
I have seen so many examples of people holding themselves back just because they listen to what others say and let them dictate the way they live.
In life I believe we are all born here as creators, meaning we must get out there and create our own lives how we would love to live it. Not living your life for others but for yourself. So a key to staying focused is not to be influenced by others unless they have something constructive for you to add to your knowledge.
If you really want something bad enough, just like having your ideal job waking up every morning and becoming great in your specific niche you are in. You need to be the most focused and determined person you can possibly be with the tenacious mindset to be able to make you succeed in whatever you choose to do and most of all to be able to take the criticism that is thrown your way.
I have always been very focused on what I have wanted to achieve and I can tell you that as long as you get your mindset right, that is a very power tool to have. It will definitely take you to the top in your field.
A great saying my dad always use to say to me when I was chasing after to many things at once in life was “A hunter that chases two rabbits will never catch either” Meaning focus and complete on one thing at a time. You will be more productive and get more things done, rather than always chasing your tail!
So let’s stay focused and live life the way you want to live it. That’s what life is all about isn’t it? We must enjoy our experience while we are on this wonderful planet.
To your success

Do You Ever Procrastinate?
Feature Article: 20 Minutes is Your Friend
Do you ever procrastinate?
Procrastination is the habit of not getting started, putting things off till the last minute. It results in missed opportunities. stress, and a head and life full of clutter.
Here are 7 tips for dealing with procrastination that will help you take charge of your life. As you read these, think of something you are procrastinating about right now and see how these tips relate - I know there IS something you're procrastinating about.
1. First, ask yourself: Is this project or action in alignment with my vision or purpose? Is it something really important to you? If not, why are you even thinking about doing it?
2. Are you telling yourself you 'have to' do it? If so, that puts a heavy energy onto it and who wants to do something they're being told they have to do? Either find a way for it to be something you choose to do, or don't do it. Words have energy behind them, they shape your outcomes.
Remember, you don't have to do anything you don't want to do. You are always free to choose. There may be consequences for not doing it, but you DO have a choice.
3. Let go of perfectionism. For anyone with a writing project that's the biggest energy killer. Just start. Getting those words down on paper will get the energy flowing and when you come to edit you'll have something to work with. Same applies to anything else.
4. Break projects down into tasks. A project is to do your taxes or declutter the garage. A task might be to collect your Credit Card receipts or declutter one box in the corner of your garage. See the difference?
A task is something you can do in 20-30 minutes. Make a list of tasks associated with a project you've been putting off. Then schedule them - perhaps 20 minutes a day.
Remember this: '20 minutes is your friend'. The hardest part is starting but anyone can do something for 20 minutes. Set a timer - likely once you start you'll do more, but even if it's just 20 minutes a day, that's 140 minutes a week and over 9 hours in a month. That's some serious momentum you will have created.
5. Schedule fun times: Schedule self care, meditation, time for you, time with your family - those things that give you the energy and resources to handle the more challenging things - so you don’t feel deprived. I recommend scheduling your ME time for first thing in the morning. Then schedule your 20-30 minute spots that will lead to completion of your project. Everything else will fit in.
6. Reward yourself: Spend 20 minutes - and then reward yourself. For me writing this article - the task right now is fleshing out the outline I wrote - then I get to take a break and phone a friend. And yes, I've already been going for more than 20 minutes. Funny that!
7. Staying motivated. Find an accountability buddy. The more people you tell, the more likely it is you'll do it. It's a bit like the Integrity Days I offer in my programs. Having told us what you're going to do in the coming hour, you're unlikely to call back and say you just sat around eating bon-bons!
Procrastination is caused by turning a project into something unpleasant. The way to reduce procrastination is reframe your experience. These tips will help you - if you use them.
Remember 20 minutes is your friend.
Now, what will you do today?

15 Great Ways To Lose Weight!!
It's easy to say goodbye to 10 pounds of unwanted fat with
these easy diet tips. Just pay attention to what you eat
and be sure to have good tasting, fresh and healthy food
including snacks, fill up on vegetables and keep your taste
buds happy with fruit.
No need to make sacrifices! Just follow these simple
guidelines to lose your first 10 pounds, last 10 pounds or
give your weight loss program a boost when it seems to have
stuttered to a halt. This is a balanced and flexible plan
that you can use for as long as you want.
1. Keep a note of everything that you eat and drink. You do
not need to estimate calories. Just write down what it was
that you had and the approximate quantity. You will find
that being more aware of what you are eating helps you to
plan healthy meals and snacks.
2. Halve your intake of all pure or added fats. This means
using half as much butter or spread on your bread, toast,
muffins and potatoes; half the usual amount of mayonnaise
or sauce on your salad; and half the oil in the frypan
every time.
3. Limit treats containing sugar to three times per week.
This includes chocolate, ice cream, desserts, cake,
pastries, cookies, etc.
4. Include a lower fat source of protein at most meals:
chicken, fish, beans, cottage cheese, or low fat yogurt.
Have eggs, nuts and red meat occasionally but not every
day.
5. Plan at least one lunch and dinner every week without
meat or cheese. Build those meals around whole grains,
vegetables and beans to increase fiber and reduce fat.
6. Reduce the fat content in your milk products. If you are
currently drinking whole milk, reduce to 2% fat. From 2%
reduce to 1%. Choose lower fat cheese and yogurt. When you
buy yogurt, also check that it does not contain sugar.
7. Have at least two servings of fruit every day. This can
be for dessert or snacks. Choose fruit that is in season.
8. Drink water instead of sodas, juices, milky drinks or
alcohol. Avoid diet soda - the sweet taste only encourages
you to crave sugar. Hot water with a slice of lemon can be
very refreshing in the morning.
9. Include at least two servings of vegetables at lunch and
dinner. If you are getting hungry, have more.
10. Eat slowly. The body is slow to register when you are
full and it is easy to eat too much if you are racing
through your meals.
11. Grated carrot makes a great snack. You will find that a
grated carrot is much more filling than a whole carrot.
Strange but true.
12. Use whole grains wherever possible. The fiber will give
you a fuller feeling and also help your digestion.
13. Choose food that you can chew. Again this will increase
your fiber intake, and the act of chewing will make you
feel
more satisfied too. This means eating fruit instead of
drinking juice. If you have soup, make sure it is chunky.
14. Plan your meals and snacks ahead of time. Plan your
shopping too - make a list of what you need and stick to
it. If you just grab something when you are feeling hungry,
you will probably choose high calorie food.
15. Always switch off the TV when you eat. That includes
snacks as well as meals. Studies have proved that we eat
larger portions in front of the TV, probably because we are
much less aware of what we are eating. When you eat, only
eat if you want to lose weight fast.

Suagr Detox- How to rid your diet of sugar!!!
This article is going to be about how you can go an a sugar detox, and lessen the horrible cravings and keep them away. If you have ever tried to take sugar out of your diet, then you know all about the withdrawal's associated with it. The drastic failure rate of sugar detoxes these days is due to the sugar eating habits that people have developed over the years. So how do you get sugar out of your diet and succeed at it, here's your guide:
Step 1: Get Sugar Out Of Your Home, Car, And Work
The biggest cause of failure when people try to go on a sugar detox, is from grabbing one of their usual snacks. One big source of sugar that causes many people to fail their detox attempts, is forgetting they put sugar in their coffee. Many people get way too much sugar just from their coffee, or in some cases tea. So you need to make sure your aware of everything you put sugar into, then you need to take all of the sugar out of your home, car, and work.
Step 2: Don't Go Crazy, Use A Substitute
Eliminating all of the sugar from your diet is a sure-fire way to go crazy. You'll literally be pulling your hair out in frustration and could be having symptoms of sickness. Why will taking sugar out of your diet do all of this? Because most people are actually addicted to sugar! That's right, its an addiction just as real as drugs, alcohol, or cigarettes and you can have the same symptoms of withdrawal from taking sugar out of your diet. One way to counteract this need for sugar when detoxing, is to replace it with a healthy substitute such as fruits. Good substitutes that really seem to counteract the need to sugar are blueberries, cherries, banana's, strawberries, watermelon, cantaloupe, grapes, oranges, apples, raspberries, and tangerines.
Step 3: Identify The "Usual" Culprits
You have to figure out what your usual sources of sugar are, and make a commitment to yourself to eliminate those from your diet. For me it was cookies, I just love cookies. It admittedly took me a long time to get rid of cookies in my diet, and I couldn't eliminate them all at once even with the help of substitutes. I thought about how many cookies I ate each day,(I was like the cookie monster BTW) and decided to lessen that number by 1 each day if possible. The number in my case was actually around 1 pack or 20 cookies. After 20 days, I was cookie free and using the substitutes to curb the cravings.
Step 4: Take A Day Off
I'm a firm believer that everyone needs a day off. A day off from working, a day of from intense thinking, and a day off from a healthy diet. Take a day off and eat anything you want. That's right, just go crazy and eat as much as you want of anything that you want. Your diet that you follow the rest of the week, will actually make your body like healthier things more so you won't need as much unhealthy cheating food on Sunday (or whatever your cheat day is). This cheat day will give you something to look forward to and a reason to stick to your diet.
Follow these steps, and a successful sugar detox will have you on a healthier diet in no time!

Winter Weight gain..Why does it Happen and What Can We Do?
Winter weight gain is a common complaint of many people. It
seems that every winter we add a few pounds, and come summer
we don't lose them all again either. A few of them always
stick around, making us a little heavier every year. They
seem to be very hard to lose extra pounds! Why does this
happen and what can we do?
There are many contributing factors. First, it seems likely
that we have a genetic disposition to store more fat as
winter approaches. Many animals do this and it was probably
vital to survival for our ancestors. Extra layers of fat on
the body protect us against the cold and then can be used
as fuel in the late winter and early spring when food
stocks would historically be very low. We probably have a
tendency to eat more in the fall, when food is plentiful
after harvest time, to help this process along. We may also
unconsciously choose foods that are higher in fat content at
this time.
Hormone levels can also influence our weight gain. The
interaction of hormones and other chemicals in the brain
can bring about variations in appetite and cravings. Some
neurotransmitters can also influence the way we eat. People
who are overweight often have low levels of these
neurotransmitters and the results can include excessive
appetite, depression and sleep disorders. At the same time,
the lack of daylight caused by the shortening days during
late fall and winter can bring on seasonally affected
disorder or winter depression. One of the quickest ways to
give a boost to the energy levels and emotions is to eat
high carbohydrate foods including sugar treats, chips and
cereals that give us a fast blood sugar 'fix'. So people
who feel low in the winter will tend to overeat or eat the
wrong foods, leading to weight gain, more depression and a
vicious cycle that is hard to break.
So altogether there are many reasons why we eat more high
carbohydrate foods such as cookies, pies and chocolate in
the winter, and of course most of these foods also contain
high levels of fats. The best way to handle this is
generally to substitute other foods that are also high in
carbohydrate so that we get what our body craves, but which
have low fat content and plenty of fiber. This means
potatoes, wholegrain bread without butter, wholegrain rice,
cereals, and fresh whole fruit.
It is also important to take more exercise. Often our
physical activity levels drop in the winter and we have a
tendency to want to stay home and rest. This is natural
when it is cold outside. But we are not cavemen! We have
heating in our homes and can be sure that there will still
be plenty of food in the stores come February. We do not
need to stow fat the way that they did. Sign up with a gym
or get a stationary bicycle for the den. Transform those
carbs into energy now instead of keeping it on the
waistline until spring. Winter weight gain is easily
avoidable this way.

Blood Clots/Stroke - Tongue in New 4th Indicator
Blood Clots/Stroke - They Now Have a Fourth Indicator, the Tongue
I will continue to forward this every time it comes around!
STROKE:Remember the 1st Three Letters....S.T.R.
My nurse friend sent this and encouraged me to post it and spread the word.
I agree.
If everyone can remember something this simple, we could save some folks.
Seriously..
Please read:
STROKE IDENTIFICATION:
During a BBQ, a friend stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) .she said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes.
They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening
Ingrid's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00 pm Ingrid passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Ingrid would be with us today. Some don't die. they end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead.
It only takes a minute to read this...
A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.
RECOGNIZING A STROKE
Thank God for the sense to remember the '3' steps, STR . Read and Learn!
Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.
Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:
S *Ask the individual to SMILE.
T *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)
(i.e. It is sunny out today.)
R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.
If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.
New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue
NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue.. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other, that is also an indication of a stroke.
